Charging station: a place where cars are charged

A charging station is a place where electric vehicles are charged. Similar to a gas station, just changing from refueling to charging.

What's in the charging station

A charging station usually has several to dozens of chargers. Each charger is connected to a charging gun, just like a refueling gun, only transmitting electricity. Users can insert the gun into the car, scan the code or swipe their card to start charging.

The location of charging stations is usually in parking lots, downstairs shopping malls, highway service areas, or specially opened open spaces. Some charging stations have rain shelters, while others are directly outdoors. A few charging stations have a small room next to them for drivers to rest or buy a bottle of water, but not every station has it.

how to use

The matter of using a charging station is not complicated. Park the car in the parking space, remove the charging gun and insert it into the charging port of the car, then scan the QR code on the charger screen with your mobile phone, operate it on WeChat or Alipay, pay the advance payment, and the charging will start automatically.

After charging, the mobile app will prompt. Remove the charging gun, put it back in place, and drive away. The cost will be deducted from the advance payment, and the remaining amount will be refunded.

Charging speed

There are two types of chargers: fast and slow.

Fast charging has high power, usually charging to around 80% in half an hour to an hour. It will be slower to fully charge because the battery protection mechanism will automatically slow down the charging speed. This charger is suitable for replenishing power on the road and for emergency situations.

Slow charging has low power, and it takes several hours or even an entire night to fully charge a car. Suitable for staying overnight at work or in residential areas.

Fast charging is more expensive in terms of price. The price per kilowatt hour plus the service fee is roughly equivalent to one-third to half of the fuel cost of a gasoline truck, depending on the local electricity price and time period.

Frequently encountered problems

Finding a charger can sometimes be a hassle. The map shows a charging station, but when I drove over, I found that the parking space was occupied by a gasoline truck or the charger was broken and no one was repairing it. Some stations also show as idle, but when they arrive, they discover that someone is charging because the system update is not timely.

There is also the issue of unstable charging speed. When it's cold, battery activity decreases and charging slows down, which is determined by the characteristics of the battery, not the pile. Some charging stations also reduce power during peak electricity consumption periods due to high grid loads.

Is it worth using

If there is a fixed parking space at home that can be equipped with private charging stations, it is almost impossible to use public charging stations in daily life. But many people do not have this condition and can only rely on public charging stations. In this case, charging does take more time than refueling, and at least half an hour should be left for each recharge. However, the cost is indeed lower than that of gasoline powered vehicles, which can save a lot in the long run.

There are more and more charging stations now, but there is still a gap compared to the number of gas stations. With the increase of electric vehicles, the supporting facilities of charging stations are also following suit. However, building a station requires site, power capacity expansion, and equipment investment, which cannot be fully covered in the short term.

In general, charging stations are the supply points for electric vehicles. It's not difficult to use, it requires a little patience, and once you get used to it, it's just like that.
