How fast are electric car fast chargers?
Depending on the charging source and battery capacity of the electric vehicle, some drivers can use an electric vehicle fast charging station to charge the car to 80% in 30 minutes, and the normal battery charging time from empty to full is about 1-1.5 hours.
Most drivers will charge rather than wait for the battery to go from empty to full. For many EVs, a 60kW fast charger can add up to 100 miles of range in about 35 minutes.
The larger the car's battery, the slower the charging point and the longer it will take to go from empty to full. But the battery itself can only accept a power of about 120 kilowatts at most, and the actual charging speed limit is close to 40 minutes.
Most battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are capable of fast charging. Our fast chargers are available in power levels from 20 kW all the way up to 360 kW. How quickly a vehicle charges is typically determined by the vehicle's battery management system (or BMS - sort of like the vehicle's "brain").
